What is the filter theory of attention?
The early selection model of attention, proposed by Broadbent, posits that stimuli are filtered, or selected to be attended to, at an early stage during processing. A filter can be regarded as the selector of relevant information based on basic features, such as color, pitch, or direction of stimuli.
What is shadowing in psychology?
n. in cognitive testing, a task in which a participant repeats aloud a message word for word at the same time that the message is being presented, often while other stimuli are presented in the background. It is mainly used in studies of attention.
Which best describes Dichotic listening?
Dichotic listening simply refers to the situation when two messages are presented simultaneously to an individual, with one message in each ear. In order to control which message the person attends to, the individual is asked to repeat back or “shadow” one of the messages as he hears it.
What increases cognitive load?
Cognitive load is typically increased when unnecessary demands are imposed on a learner, making the task of processing information overly complex. Such demands include the unnecessary distractions of a classroom and inadequate methods used by teachers to educate students about a subject.
What is high perceptual load?
When a task imposes high perceptual load, capacity is reached and distractors cannot be processed, resulting in performance that is consistent with early selection. However, when a task involves low perceptual load, all available stimuli are processed, distractors and targets alike, necessitating late selection.
What does conjunction search mean in relation to visual attention?
Conjunction search (also known as inefficient or serial search) is a visual search process that focuses on identifying a previously requested target surrounded by distractors possessing one or more common visual features with the target itself.
What are the assertions assumptions behind cognitive load theory?
These assumptions include: that human memory can be divided into working memory and long-term memory; that information is stored in the long-term memory in the form of schemas; and that processing new information results in 'cognitive load' on working memory which can affect learning outcomes (Anderson 1977; Atkinson & ...
How does perceptual load differ from processing capacity?
How does perceptual load differ from processing capacity? Perceptual load is individual and processing capacity is universal.
Which organ is unique in that it appears to be static tissue?
the brain
Who proposed that children's language development was caused by imitation and reinforcement?
Skinner
What is the proper order of the steps involved in behavior modification?
All of the following are basic steps to modify behavior using behavior modification....
- Identifying goals and target behaviors.
- Designing a system to record data.
- Selecting a behavior-change strategy.
- Implementing the program.
- Keeping records of progress.
- Evaluating and revising the program as necessary.
What are the five steps in behavior modification?
Prochaska has found that people who have successfully made positive change in their lives go through five specific stages: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance.
What is the likely effect of Disidentification?
An individual will likely devalue performance-based tasks is the likely effect of disidentification.
